Explanation – The primary objective of the Sea Vigil-24 exercise is to enhance coastal security and defence readiness by testing and improving the coordination between various maritime stakeholders, including the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, state marine police, and other agencies. It serves as a precursor to the biennial Theatre Level Readiness Operational Exercise (TROPEX) conducted by the Indian Navy. It was first conceptualized in 2018 in response to the growing need for robust coastal security after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
