News: Goa’s only zoo in Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary will soon get new animals after 12 years, including a barking deer and two sloth bears.
About Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary
- Location: It is located in Ponda, Goa.
- It is nested in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
- It was established in 1969 as a protected area and later became a sanctuary.
- Size: It covers an area of about 7.98 km. and is situated at an elevation of around 3,000 feet.
- River flowing through it: The Rangado River borders the sanctuary on the east, while the Madhel River flows along its northern edge.
- Vegetation: The sanctuary’s vegetation is dominated by thick, moist deciduous plants.
- Flora: The dominant trees in this Sanctuary are Terminalia crenulata ( Matti, the state tree of Goa) and Rosewood.
- Fauna: This biodiversity supports many animal species, including Indian bison (gaur), panther, leopard, sambar deer, wild boar, Wild boar, Porcupine, etc.
