News: Goa’s only zoo in Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary will soon get new animals after 12 years, including a barking deer and two sloth bears.

  • Location: It is located in Ponda, Goa. 
    • It is nested in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
  • It was established in 1969 as a protected area and later became a sanctuary.
  • Size: It covers an area of about 7.98 km. and is situated at an elevation of around 3,000 feet.
  • River flowing through it: The Rangado River borders the sanctuary on the east, while the Madhel River flows along its northern edge.
  • Vegetation: The sanctuary’s vegetation is dominated by thick, moist deciduous plants.
  • Flora:  The dominant trees in this Sanctuary are Terminalia crenulata ( Matti, the state tree of Goa) and Rosewood.
  • Fauna: This biodiversity supports many animal species, including Indian bison (gaur), panther, leopard, sambar deer, wild boar, Wild boar, Porcupine, etc.
