  • The NIDMS is a centralized and secure national platform for managing data related to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incidents.
  • It is designed to serve as a single, authoritative repository of IED-related information across the country.
  • Developed by: National Security Guard (NSG)
  • Coordinating agencies:  RRU, IIT Delhi, the National Investigation Agency, the Cyber Security Coordination Centre, and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Aim: To support prevention, investigation and response mechanisms by enabling systematic data collection, analysis, and dissemination among authorised stakeholders.
  • Accessibility: It will be accessible to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), state police forces, and all Central Armed Police Forces.
    • It supports the concept of ‘One Nation, One Data Repository’, making critical security data available as a national asset to all police units.
    • The system will also be integrated with the Integrated Criminal Justice System (ICJS-2), which follows the principle of ‘One Data–One Entry’.
  • Functions of the NIDMS:
    • It enables standardised and systematic recording of IED incident data through a common proforma or format.
    • The platform facilitates real-time data sharing among authorised stakeholders based on predefined access levels.
    • It maintains detailed records related to explosive materials, initiation mechanisms, locations of incidents, forensic findings, and operational patterns.
    • The system utilises advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, to analyse data and identify patterns. It helps in tracking techniques, tactics, and procedures adopted by terror networks and in identifying their modus operandi.
    • It supports the training of security personnel through the use of three-dimensional models of IEDs.
    • It enables faster formulation and dissemination of immediate and long-term counter-IED measures to address emerging and futuristic threats.
  • Strategic and Security Significance
    • It strengthens India’s internal security architecture by enabling evidence-based decision-making.
    • It promotes enhanced cooperation and information sharing among national and international security organisations.
    • It aligns India with global best practices followed by international bomb data centres.
