• Location: Fossils were unearthed in the Maranhão region of northeastern Brazil, near the Tocantins River, which gives the species its name.
• Classification:It is a member of the Somphospondyli, a group of long-necked, long-tailed sauropods that were precursors to the even larger titanosaurs.
• Size: Estimated to be approximately 20 meters (66 feet) long, based on a 1.5-meter-long femur (thigh bone).
• European connection: Analysis shows it is the closest known relative of Garumbatitan morellensis, a dinosaur found in Spain.
