News: The National Dental Commission (NDC) has been constituted recently to improve the quality of dental education and align it with global standards.
About National Dental Commission

- It is a statutory and apex body responsible for regulating dental education, professional conduct, and institutional standards across the country.
- Constitution: It has been constituted under National Dental Commission (NDC) Act, 2026.
- It will replace the Dental Council of India (DCI).
- It will introduce essential and regulatory reforms in dental education and enhance access to affordable oral healthcare across the country.
- Members: It includes the chairperson and a part-time member.
- Autonomous Board: Three autonomous bodies have been constituted to support the functioning of the Commission:
- Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dental Education Board to oversee dental education.
- Dental Assessment and Rating Board to regulate accreditation and institutional assessment.
- Ethics and Dental Registration Board to govern professional conduct and registration of dentists.
- Function: Key functions of the National Dental Commission include:
- It will frame regulations to implement the provisions of the NDC Act, 2026.
- It will conduct rating and assessment of dental institutions
- It will evaluate human resources and promote dental research
- It will also frame guidelines for fee regulation in private dental colleges
- It will establish standards for community dental care, education, research, and professional ethics.
