News: Officials of the Fisheries department sounded alarm about the outbreak of White Gut Disease (WDG).
About White Gut Disease (WDG)

- It is a gastrointestinal disorder of cultivated penaeid shrimp.
- It is also known as White Feces Disease (WFD).
- Caused by: It is caused by bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus.
- Symptoms: Shrimp affected by it produce white fecal strings that float on the water surface.
- These white feces consist of damaged and decaying digestive tissues mixed with shrimp waste.
- Infected shrimp also show reduced feed intake, slow growth, brown-colored intestines, and loose shells.
- Prevention: Aqua farmers should maintain good hygienic conditions to prevent diseases.
- It can also be prevented by reducing stocking density, applying probiotics, and practicing proper feed management.
