  • It is a prestigious inter-school football tournament.
  • Conducted by: It is conducted by the Air Force Sports Control Board.
  • Frequency of conduct: It is held annually in New Delhi.
  • Named after: It is named after the first Indian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee.
  • First Edition: The first edition was conducted in 1960. 
  • It is a unique tournament where in the champion school teams from all states and foreign countries participate in this tournament.
  • Categories: It has following categories: Sub-Junior Boys (Under-15), Junior Boys (Under-17), and Junior Girls (Under-17). 
  • How It is conducted: Preliminary inter-school tournaments are organized in every state & union territory starting from Sub-division, district and division level culminating in the inter-school finals at the state level.
    • The school teams, winning the state inter-school championships are then invited to participate in the main Tournament.
    • It is played on league cum knock out basis and is played in accordance with laws of the game as framed by FIFA as adopted by AIFF & SSCB.

About Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026

  • It is the 65th edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament. 
  • It is being held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.
  • Structure: It features 108 teams in three categories: Junior Girls (U-17), Junior Boys (U-17), and Sub-Junior Boys (U-15).
    • It is divided into eight groups per category.
    • Group winners will advance to the knockout stages, to culminating in the tournament finals.
  • Performance: On the opening day, Meghalaya’s Junior Girls (U-17) team defeated Chandigarh 2–0.
    • The goals were scored by Ms. Genefa and Ms. Wandari.
