News: MoHUA has identified 50 model cities under PRAGATI-50 to promote higher standards of ‘Swachhata’ through KPI-based and technology-enabled monitoring.
About PRAGATI-50 Initiative

- The PRAGATI-50 Initiative is a targeted urban sanitation and governance program.
- Nodal ministry: It was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
- Aim: It aims to bring visible and sustained improvements in urban cleanliness, solid waste management, used water management, sanitation and citizen participation through a structured framework of monitoring and review within a defined timeframe.
- Features:
- The initiative adopts “City as a Whole’” approach, ensuring all stakeholders, partners; Urban Local Bodies are included in the planning and implementation.
- Under Pragati-50, the selected cities are expected to receive focused attention on 24×7 mechanized cleaning, scientific solid-waste management, used-water management, green mobility, solar energy and modern civic amenities.
- The initiative focuses on KPI-based action, intensive monitoring, technology-enabled interventions, and improved sanitation practices to achieve visible and sustainable improvements in ‘Swachhata’.
- 50 cities across 24 states has identified under PRAGATI-50.
- UP has the highest number of cities with six among the states selected for the initiative.
