  • The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art held in Kochi, Kerala.
  • It seeks to invoke the latent cosmopolitan spirit of the modern metropolis of Kochi and its mythical past, Muziris, and create a platform that will introduce contemporary international visual art theory and practice to India.
  • Indian and international artists exhibit artworks across a variety of mediums including film, installation, painting, sculpture, new media and performance art.
  • It is the largest art exhibition in India and the biggest contemporary art festival in Asia.
  • It is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation with support from the Government of Kerala

  • Kochi Biennale Foundation
    • It is a non-profit charitable trust engaged in promoting art & culture and educational activities in India; primary amongst them the hosting of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, an art exhibition and festival that is the largest of its kind in South Asia.
    • Foundation is also engaged in the conservation of heritage properties and monuments and the upliftment of traditional forms of art and culture
    • The fourth edition of the Biennale will run from 12 December, 2018 until 29 March, 2019.
  • About Muziris:
    • The ancient city that was buried under layers of mud and mythology after a massive flood in the 14th-century. The site was recently identified and is currently under excavation.
