Cabinet approves 3 new AIIMS in J&K, Gujarat
News:
Union Cabinet approved the setting up of three All India Institutes of Medical Sciences in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat.
Facts:
- Three AIIMS will be setup at Samba in Jammu, Pulwama in Kashmir and in Rajkot, Gujarat.
- The institutes will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana
- The objective is to establish the new AIIMS as Institutions of National Importance for providing quality tertiary healthcare, medical education, nursing education and research in the region
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana
- The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) was announced in 2003 with objectives of correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country.
- PMSSY has two components:
- Setting up of AIIMS like Institutions
- Upgradation of Government Medical College Institutions.
