INS Magar Departs for Mozambique with Relief Material

  1. INS Magar has recently departed Mumbai for Port Beira in Mozambique to augment Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts in Mozambique. Mozambique been reeling under widespread flooding and devastation after a tropical cyclone named Idai struck the nation in mid-March. HADR operations seek to provide immediate succour and relief to the disaster affected population
  2. In response to a request from the Mozambique government, the Indian government, has had launched a HADR operation near Port Beira in Mozambique. Three Indian Naval Ships viz. INS Sujatha, INS Shardul & INS Sarathi have already been deployed to Beira to help in search and rescue, provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
  3. INS Magar is an amphibious warfare vessel of the Indian Navy. The ship to Mozambique is also carrying a naval Chetak Light Utility helicopter. The helicopter will be used for relief operations.
