- India’s Defence Minister is on a visit to Japan for the annual Defence Ministerial Meeting between the two countries.
- The meeting highlighted the significance of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan, especially in addressing the security, stability and regional peace.
- The two countries have also decided to hold the first Foreign and Defence Ministerial Dialogue(2+2) ahead of the Japan-India Annual Summit this year.
- The two countries has also welcomed Malabar 2019 which is a trilateral maritime exercise between India, Japan and the US which will be held between late September and early October,2019.
- Further,they also had a discussion about the second trilateral mine countermeasures exercise(MINEX) between India, Japan and the US, which was held in July,2019.
- They also discussed other bilateral exercises namely Dharma Guardian which was held in 2018 between the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and the Indian Army.
- SHINYUU MAITRI is the first bilateral exercise between the Japan Air Self-Defense Force(JASDF) and the Indian Air Force which was held in December 2018.
- In 2018,Japan had also joined the India-US Air Force exercise ‘Cope India’ as an observer for the first time.
- They have also welcomed the steady progress in bilateral cooperation in the area of Maritime Domain Awareness based on the agreement signed in 2018 to deepen the cooperation between the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Indian Navy.
