After plastic bags, ban on water sachets mooted in Araku Valley

  1. Integrated Tribal Regional Development Agency (ITDA), Paderu has planned to enforce a prohibition on the sale of plastic water sachets in Araku valley.
  2. Araku valley is a hill station in the Vishakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. It is inhabited my many tribes such as the Kodhu.
  3. Water sachets account for half of the plastic waste dumped in Araku and contributes to environmental pollution. It is also detrimental to animal health such as cattle.
  4. ITDA had also banned the use of plastic carry bags and polythene covers in Araku Valley since January 1st, 2019
