Assam to be oil exporting hub for Southeast Asia

  1. Petroleum Minister has predicted that Assam would soon become one of India’s major oil exporting hubs catering to neighbouring countries and Southeast Asia. The prediction has been based on a number of projects for augmenting oil exploration, refining and transportation capacity in various stages of completion in the state.
  2. In 2016, the government had introduced Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for north-east India. The Vision aims at a) doubling Oil & Gas production by 2030, b) making clean fuels accessible, c) fast tracking projects, d) generating employment opportunities and e) boosting trade with neighbouring countries. 
  3. The states covered include a) Arunachal Pradesh, b) Assam, c) Manipur, d) Meghalaya, e) Mizoram, f) Nagaland, g) Sikkim and h)Tripura
