Biofuel alliance gains diplomatic status

News: The Union Government signed a deal with Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA), giving the body the status of an ‘independent and international legal entity’. This diplomatic status is like the status enjoyed by Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) and International Solar Alliance (ISA).

1. Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA): It was launched by PM Narendra Modi along with leaders from 8 other countries in September 2023, on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

2. It is a multi-stakeholder alliance that aims to facilitate collaboration among countries, businesses, and research institutions to expedite the production and adoption of biofuels.

3. India’s domestic schemes to promote biofuels: A) PM- JIVAN Yojana B) SATAT Scheme C) GOBARdhan Yojana

4. Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI): It was launched by PM Narendra Modi at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit in New York.

5. It is a multi-stakeholder global partnership that aims at promoting resilience of infrastructure projects to withstand disasters and climate change impacts.

6. Some of the initiatives launched by CDRI include Urban Infrastructure Resilience Programme (UIRP), Infrastructure for Resilient Island States (IRIS), DRI Connect.

7. International Solar Alliance (ISA): It is a treaty based international inter-governmental organisation that was established by Prime Minister of India and President of France in 2015.

8. It aims to develop and deploy cost-effective solar-powered energy solutions to help member countries develop low carbon growth trajectories.
