About Boma–Badingilo Migratory Landscape
- The Boma–Badingilo Migratory Landscape is located in South Sudan.
- It is located at the interface between the Sudd wetland system and the East Sudanian Savanna.
- It is known for supporting one of the world’s largest terrestrial mammal migrations.
- It comprises Boma National Park, Badingilo National Park, and the surrounding floodplain and savanna landscapes in South Sudan.
- Vegetation: It encompasses an extensive mosaic of seasonally flooded grasslands, wetlands, floodplains, woodlands, and savannas shaped by seasonal rainfall and flood dynamics.
- Fauna: These connected ecosystems support one of the world’s largest remaining land-mammal migrations.
- Around six million White-eared Kob, Tiang, and Mongalla Gazelle are found in this region.
- It supports many important wildlife species, including Nile Lechwe, African Savanna Elephant, African Wild Dog, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, and Beisa Oryx.
- It is also an important habitat for many bird species, including shoebills, storks, African Openbills, Abdim’s Storks, and Woodland Kingfishers.
- It is also home to diverse communities, including the Murle, Dinka, Nuer, Anyuak, and Toposa.
- It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as South Sudan’s first World Heritage Site in July 2026 .
