News: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has ordered a detailed probe into the alleged deficiencies in Ola Electric’s services and products.
1. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is a statutory body established under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 to promote, protect and enforce the rights of consumers in India.
2. CCPA comprises of a Chief Commissioner and two other commissioners as members.
3. Important functions of CCPA include regulating unfair trade practices, protecting and enforcing the rights of consumers, ensuring product safety and quality, advising the central government on policies related to consumer protection.
4. CCPA has powers to recall, replace or refund defective goods and services, conduct detailed investigations, impose penalties for non-compliance with consumer protection laws.
5. It functions under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
