Centre to bring 13 % of large dams under World Bank’s dam rehabilitation project

1. The Indian government has decided to increase the percentage of large dams under Dam Safety Rehabilitation and Improvement Project project(DRIP) to 13%. At present, 4% of dams are under the project.
2. The project was launched in 2012 by the Central Water Commission (CWC) under Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation. It is a World Bank assisted project.
3. The DRIP projects seeks to a) improve the safety and operational performance of selected existing dams and associated appurtenances in a sustainable manner and b) improve institutional capacities for dam safety evaluation and implementation at the Central and State levels.
4. The Central Dam Safety Organization of Central Water Commission has been entrusted with coordinating and supervising the project implementation.
