News: Thousands of migrants who risked their lives to enter Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco turned back almost as quickly as they arrived.

  • It forms the European Union’s only shared land border with mainland Africa, along with the nearby city of Melilla.
  • It spans roughly 19 sq. km. at the Mediterranean entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar.

  • The Border Barrier: The city is separated from Morocco by a heavily secured double fence equipped with barbed wire and modern detection systems.
