1. The Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve is in northern Chhattisgarh’s Sarguja region.
2. It lies between two other tiger reserves: Bandhavgarh (Madhya Pradesh) and Palamau (Jharkhand).
3. It is the third largest tiger reserve of the country after Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (Andhra Pradesh) and Manas Tiger Reserve (Assam).
4. It hosts a variety of fauna species like tigers, sloth bears, leopards, chital, peacocks, vultures, hyenas etc.
5. The reserve is mainly composed of tropical dry deciduous forests, with sal, saja, dhavda and kusum comprising the bulk of tree cover.
6. Presently, Chhattisgarh has 30 tigers, with the Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla TR hosting five to six tigers.
7. To increase the tiger population in the state, a comprehensive Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) is being prepared. This plan includes constructing a robust road and wireless connectivity infrastructure, increasing the prey base for tigers, creating awareness to avoid animal-human conflict, among other things.
