About Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024

  • The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) is released annually by Transparency International.
  • It ranks 180 countries and territories based on perceived levels of public sector corruption.
  • The score is on a scale of 0 to 100:
    • 0 = Highly Corrupt
    • 100 = Very Clean
  • The ranking is based on surveys and assessments by experts and business leaders.
  • India ranked 96 out of 180 countries in CPI 2024.
    • India’s score dropped to 38 (from 39 in 2023 and 40 in 2022), showing a gradual decline.
    • India’s rank in 2023 was 93, meaning it fell by three positions in 2024.
  • Least Corrupt Nations (Top 3):
    • Denmark (1st) – Cleanest country.
    • Finland (2nd).
    • Singapore (3rd).
  • India’s Neighbouring Countries’ Rankings
    • China – Rank 76.
    • Pakistan – Rank 135.
    • Sri Lanka – Rank 121
