  1. Authorities in Cuttack, Odisha have begun mass culling of poultry after an outbreak of bird flu in the city. Samples collected from a state-run duck breeding centre had tested positive of avian influenza (Bird flu)
  2. Bird flu is a highly infectious, severe respiratory disease in birds. It is caused by H5N1 virus, a subtype of the influenza A virus. Human infections with avian influenza occur through infected bird-to-human contact or contact with surfaces and objects contaminated by their droppings.
  3. Human-human transmission is limited. H5N1 infection in humans can cause severe disease and has a high mortality rate.
