News: Brazilian scientists identified a new giant dinosaur species with links to Spain, supporting past land connections among South America, Africa and Europe.
About Dasosaurus Tocantinensis

- Dasosaurus tocantinensis is a newly identified species of giant, long-necked herbivorous dinosaur discovered in Brazil.
- Location: Fossils were unearthed in the Maranhão region of northeastern Brazil, near the Tocantins River, which gives the species its name.
- Classification:It is a member of the Somphospondyli, a group of long-necked, long-tailed sauropods that were precursors to the even larger titanosaurs.
- Size: Estimated to be approximately 20 meters (66 feet) long, based on a 1.5-meter-long femur (thigh bone).
- European connection: Analysis shows it is the closest known relative of Garumbatitan morellensis, a dinosaur found in Spain.
- This suggests this lineage originated in Europe and migrated to South America via North Africa roughly 130 million years ago, providing evidence for ancient land bridges.
