News: Recently, ‘Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) NIPUN was delivered to the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam.

About Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) NIPUN

‘Nipun’ is the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV).
Bult by: It was built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited was delivered to the Indian Navy in 2026.
It draws her name from Sanskrit signifying ‘one who is adept, capable, and well versed in a particular discipline’.
Features:
- It is highly specialised and is capable of undertaking deep sea dive operations and rescue operations at sea.
- It is installed with state-of-the-art Dive Equipment and has capability to undertake Deep Sea Saturation Diving.
- A side diving stage has also been provided for undertaking Diving Operations.
- Its operational capabilities are further enhanced by Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), which facilitate diver monitoring, underwater inspection, and salvage missions.
- It would also serve as the Mother Ship for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV), to evacuate personnel in case of an emergency in a submarine.

A diving support vessel (DSV) is a specialised ship used as a floating base for professional underwater work, deep-sea salvage and submarine rescue operations.
It feature advanced dynamic positioning, saturation diving systems and deployment gear for remotely operated vehicles.
India’s first indigenously designed and constructed diving support vessel was INS Nistar, which was commissioned in 2025.
