About Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme
1. The Department of Land Resources (DoLR) is working to improve land records and maps for the benefit of citizens under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme.
2. It is a Central Sector scheme that has been extended to 2023-24, aiming to complete its original targets and expand its scope with a series of new initiatives.
3. It is being implemented by the Department of Land Resources (Ministry of Rural Development).
Key Achievements
1. Computerization of Land Records: The Department is making significant efforts to computerize land records. As of 8th August 2023, 94% of the Record of Rights and 94% of Registration Offices have been computerized at the national level.
2. Digitization of Cadastral Maps: The digitization of cadastral maps has also seen substantial progress, with 76% of maps across the country now digitized.
3. Unique Land Parcel Identification (Bhu Aadhar): The DoLR is assigning a unique identifier, known as Bhu Aadhar, to all land parcels. In the span of one year, nearly 9 crore land parcels have been assigned Bhu Aadhar.
5. e-Registration of Documents: The registration process for documents has transitioned from manual to electronic registration. This change has opened up the economy and facilitated capital formation in a significant way.
