Domestic tech security firms get priority in govt. purchases

1. Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has notified that it will give priority to locally produced cyber-security products where intellectual property rights are owned by companies or start-ups incorporated or registered in India

Important Facts:

2. In India, IP Registration is not mandatory. However, a firm which claims benefit should have the right to use, modify and commercialize the product without third-party consent.
3. The notification is based on Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order 2017. The Order aims to enhance income and employment in the country
4. The mandate is expected to promote indigenous cyber-security products and protect India’s information space and yield economic benefits
