Egalitarianism

Egalitarianism is the belief in equality and equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their race, gender, social status, or other distinguishing characteristics.

The philosophical basis of egalitarianism lies in the idea that all human beings possess inherent worth and dignity.

Features of egalitarianism:

  1. The fundamental belief that all human beings are equal and should be treated equally.
  2. It seeks to ensure equal distribution of resources among all the members of the society.
  3. It emphasizes on the collective responsibility for the well-being of all members of society, rather than individual success.
  4. It supports democratic decision making where all members have equal voice and opinions.

Immanuel Kant on egalitarianism, “Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never merely as a means to an end, but always at the same time as an end.”
