HI,
I may not be the as experienced person to comment on it. However, I somehow found it lost from the topic of essay. This is personal opinion and I may be wrong completely.

As it asked: Law is the essential foundation of stability and order both within societies and in international relations.

Key words:
foundation of
stability and order within societies
stability and order in international relations.

Starting was very catchy and I read almost two pages and realised a missing link between each paragraph.

As suggestion: may be adding a small paragraph after the first paragraph about what elements you think, according to you, may define StABILITY AND ORDER IN SOCIETY AND IR.

Kindly excuse me if u dont found these suggestion meaningful. as I said i may be wrong completely.

Thanks a lot
🙂

Law is the essential foundation of stability and order both
1. within societies and —very good dealt by you
2. in international relations — good…

further challenges to socities like third gender right , right of disable , afspa, child right , minority issue etc. can be added..
and challenges to international like ISIS, Climate change, rohingya issue , north korea etc. can be added…

its better to write all positive at one go and then all challenges at one go…rahter than mixing them up…
conclusion good….

India May Be A Land Of Over A Hundred Problems,But It Is Also A Place For A Billion Solutions—

India May Be A Land Of Over A Hundred Problems,But It Is Also A Place For A Billion Solutions; This Quote Aptly Described India How Our Motherland Can Fix Every Problem Despite Having A Millions Of Problem.

At Present Regardless Of The Hype Our Politicans and Business Leaders Are Making No Stone Unturned To India’s Rising Importance Over G20 and Lobby For A New G10 .But 200 Out Of The Country’s 600 District Are Infested With Maoist Revolutionaries and China Has Made Its Great Leap Forward.India Is Still Limping Two Steps Ahead and Then Stumbling Back One.

* Twenty Years Ago,The AverageProductivity Of A Cow or A Buffalo In Both India and China Was In The Region Of 1,000-2,000 Litres Of Milk.An Indian Buffalo Continues To Deliver The Same Yields,While An Animal Bred In China Delivers Five Times As Much. Why ?? All Because Our Nation Hold Back The Indian Dairy Farmers

* India Is A Rain Dependent Nation. But On Average,Only 38% Of Arable Lands Is Irrigated.Major Solutions Like Drip Irrigation Are Available To Redress The Problem. But Only A Meagre 5 % Of Available Land Has Seen This Solution Why Do Not Our Farmers Depent On Drip Irrigation ??

* There Are Roughly 450 Million People In India That Make Up Our Work Force.Of These,90% Have Not Completed School Education. Why ??? Because,Of The 6,30,000 Villages In India,Over 5,0000 DO Not Have Schools That Can Provide Education Above Class VII.Without A DOubt,Labour Productivity Is Linked To Education. Why Does The Indian Labourer Not Demand Education ??

WAYS TO FIX INDIA—

Make Politicians Live Like The Voters– When Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erodogan Came To Power,The Country Was Ruled By Military Elites.and Regular People Had To Lump it.But Erodgan Decided To Change The Country’s Political and Economic Future By Changing The Mindset Of Its Leaders.
Can It Happen In India ?? It Looks As Though It Could,If You Compare Two Himalayan States–Jammu and Kashmir and Sikkim. Both Lie In The Lap Of The Himalayas.Sikkim Has The Chinese To Contend with and J & K The Pakistanis In Addition To Jammu and Kashmir Has Been Plagued By Insurgency and Violene While Sikkim Is One Of Te Most Peaceful States In The Country This,In Spite Of The Fact That Kashmir Gets More Central Funding Than Sikkim.

ELIMINATE INEQUALITY–Two Thirds Of Indian Work As Farmers,Yet They Account For Only A FifthOf GDP- and They Live In A Dismal Conditions,With Little Chance Of Upward Mobility,For The Most Part .Why So ??
One Of The Prime Reasons Of This Discrepancy Exists Because Farmers Experience Trade Barriers,Like The Agricultre Produce Market Committee.Which Puts Serious Restrictions On Whom They Can Sell To.And Solutions Is Also There In The Form Of Co Operatives Often Operate As Monopolies In The Hands Of Political Families Who Do Everything They Can To Prevent The Competing Co Operatives.
What We Can Do About It –To Liberalised Agricultural Economy The Growth Has To Be Mandate .Only Then The Farmers and Rural Industries Have Access To A Steady Income,They Will Invest Improving Productivity,Pusing Everyone Into A Building A Country Where The Ruling Class and Citizens are Equals.
We Need To Understand Here; Can We Expend Energies Into Getting Into The Top 10 In Terma Of GDP ?? or Can We Focus On Getting The “HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX” Where We Are Constantly Get Poor Ranking .

UNLEASH INNOVATION–The Reason Why India Does Not Have Its Own APPLE or SAMSUNG is Not Beacuse The Country’s Leading Minds Are Not Well Focussed Its’ Because Industry Is Not Paying Enough Attention To Research That Does Not Have Immediate Impact On Their Company’s Bottom Line.
In India We Can Only Think Of The TATA’s and TISS.In Addition To In The Next Two to Three Deacded,The Fourth Industrial Revolution Will Be Underway. It Includes GENOMICS,NANOTECHNOLOGY and ROBOTICS,Expecting Breakthroughs Space Technology,Renewable Energy and Water Technologies. All Of These Will Transform The World.
India Has To Decide Wheteher It Wants To Be A Great Power By Servicing Multinationals and Providing Software Engineers Who Who Work AT The Low End Of The Cost Curve or Be A Lead Player In The New Revolution.

IMPROVE RELATIONS WITH KEY NEIGHBOURS–Never Mind The Contradictions In This One.
Turkey made itself a key feature in its neighborhood by inking a free trade pact with Syria, which meant that when Syria chalked out a peace plan with Israel, Damascus insisted that Turkey would be the interlocutor.
On the other hand, terrorists never think of attacking Norway or Sweden because “their objective was not to build a security
infrastructure because there is only so long and so often it can counterattacks; but to build nations nobody thinks of attacking.”
So India should shoehorn its way into international disputes, like Turkey. But at the same time remain on the isolated fringe, like Sweden? All while sitting sandwiched between Pakistan and China, while
the US makes a play to take back the Pacific?

Deploy technology to democratize education–India’s government-run schools are terrible, and education faces a
drastic shortage of teachers across the board. But the government isn’t doing enough to utilize community radio stations and its satellite network to enable distance education for anybody who’s interested.
If this technology were deployed into education, a few crore of rupees and the 700,000 villages with no access to schools suddenly become accessible. India has a satellite in orbit as well, which is meant to be used exclusively for education. Any institution can use it to impart remote education to children in Naxalite-affected areas in central and northern India; or to the schools located in difficult-to-access regionssuch as the North East.

A billion solutions for 100 problems is how Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi rightly described India.Even If We Have A 100 Problems We Will Keep Fighting as These Things Are Just A Comma Not A Full Stop.

I’m not very good at reviewing but just from general rules of editing, here’s what I think:

The question was about society and international relations- by going too much into science you have had to rush through the actual answer.
Saying we didn’t have codified laws before Vedic age is not correct as its obvious the Indus age functioned on some.
I’m glad you touched on terrorism point though that is more complex than just laws and lack thereof.
You keep saying unrecognition- weakens essay and sounds repetitive and also its not a word. Some grammatical errors are there, you can fix.

What do you mean by no law for international rivers? Can you elaborate on this? Because there is the Helsinki rules followed by the UN law on non-navigational uses of international watercourses which was again superseded by Berlin Rules. So I think for non-navigational purposes, international law exists. But for navigational purposes you can’t have international law on international watercourses as that may impinge on the sovereignty of the upstream and downstream countries.

By the way, I forgot to say your essay was pretty comprehensive. Now coming to UNCLOS, it just has a big name. No one can force China under UNCLOS if China decides to flout the law. Hehehe. International rivers are not always in contention as much as international sea-routes. That is why not many people know about these laws. I think Indus and to some extent Volga have been in some form international limelight. Even I didn’t know about these laws/rules before reading about the Indus way treaty. ?

Hi. Thank you for reviewing my Essay 🙂
As for your Essay, it contains different facets and multiple examples which is a very very good thing. Content wise the essay is good, especially that you spoke about post independence challenges and how we got over it as a nation. I completely missed the historical bit in my essay. I think structure wise it looked more like a GS answer than a Essay. I felt that your paragraphs were too small. The formula i try to follow (can’t vouch for its utility) is that in one para I try to deal with one idea and then move on. Hope it helps.

Law Is The Essential Foundation Of Stability and Order Both Within Societies and International Relations—

The law is important for a society for it serves as a norm of conduct for citizens. It was also made to provide for proper guidelines and order upon the behaviour for all citizens and to sustain the equity on the three branches of the government. It keeps the society running. Without law there would be chaos and it would be survival of the fittest and everyman for himself. Not an ideal lifestyle for most part as it plays a four primary roles in society, which are to peotect people from harm, ensure a common good, settle arguments and dispute regarding finite resources and persuade people to do a right thing.

Law Within INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIS is a set of rules intended to bind states in their relationships with each other. It is largely designed to apply to states, both to constrain (the laws of war) and to empower them (law of sovereignty)
In Addition To It has been codified, so that today most INTERNATIONAL TREATIES can happen in without haphazard manner with our neighbouring and another countries although customary international law played a relatively more important role than it does today. It has also varied significantly across countries. It is striking the extent to which international interactions have become reflected in and regulated by formal state-to-state agreements.

Whereas Law In Society is a ‘web-relationship’ and social change which obviously means a change in the system of social relationship where a social relationship is understood in terms of social processes and social interactions and social organizations. Thus, It includes alterations in the structure and functions of the society. Closer analysis of the role of law vis-à-vis social change leads us to distinguish between the direct and the indirect aspects of the role of law.

*Law plays an important indirect role in regard to social change by shaping a direct impact on society. For example: A law setting up a compulsory educational system.
With the approval of MATERNITY BENEFIT BILL as it protects the employment of women during the time of her maternity and entitles her of a ‘maternity benefit’ – i.e. full paid absence from work – to take care for her child.

* On the other hand, law interacts in many cases indirectly with basic social institutions in a manner constituting a direct relationship between law and social change. For example, a law designed to prohibit polygamy
Recently, Indian Government has brought a big changes in INDIA’s SURROGACY Rules as India has been a favourite country for those wanting a surrogate child.
The cheap availability of the service enables an overuse of the practice with commissioning parents arriving from various other countries as well .This protect the rights of both the surrogate and the child.

It is also an indicator of the nature of societal complexity and its attendant problems of integration. Further, the
reinforcement of our belief in the age-old panchayat system, the abolition of the abhorable practices of UNTOUCHABILITY, CHILD MARRIAGE, SATI, DOWRY etc are typical illustrations of social change being brought about in the country through laws.
It Is an effective medium or agency, instrumental in bringing about social change in the country or in any region in particular. Therefore, we rejuvenate our belief that law has been pivotal in introducing changes in the societal structure and relationships and continues to be so.
Law certainly has acted as a catalyst in the process of social transformation of people wherein the dilution of CASTE INEQUALITIES, protective measures for the weak and vulnerable sections, providing for the dignified existence of those living under unwholesome conditions etc. are the illustrious examples in this regard. Social change involves an alteration of society; its economic structure, values and beliefs, and its economic, political and social dimensions also undergo modification. However, social change does not affect all aspects of society in the same manner.

While much of social change is brought about by material changes such as technology, new patterns of production, etc., other conditions are also necessary. For example,, legal prohibition of untouchability in free India has not succeeded because of inadequate social support.

Nonetheless, when law cannot bring about change without social support, it still can create certain preconditions for social change. Moreover, after independence, the Constitution of India provided far-reaching guidelines for change. Its directive principle suggested a blueprint for a new nation. The de-recognition of the caste system, equality before the law and
equal opportunities for all in economic, political and social spheres were some of the high points of the Indian Constitution.

Grammatical errors firstly- fix them and pay attention to new phrases when you read news..
Now image 1- touching on harappa is a good idea. say urban planning instead of house planning.
image 2- good progression of events going from Mauryas to 1857, I’d have never thought of that.
image 3- 1947- constitution to untouchability good progression. But here instead of waxing emotional you could have touched upon how caste system had also been legal only and now law only removes oppression.
you have ended with governance aspect. Till here you could have shortened the paragraphs and given some space to current examples of lawlessness and some aspects of laws in environment, taxes, disputes etc.
In international section, conferences aren’t really legal arrangements, but dialogue platforms. Ukraine point was good. Its not wrong but the way you have written it doesn’t link it well to order and stability through law.
Conclusion should be stronger.
Overall points are good, logical progression is there. You should improve language use. Right now you are explaining some thing unnecessarily and not touching on others because it looks like you had paucity of time.

1st intro can be improved
2nd take care of grammar specially when u have underlined the sentence
3rd it is factually incorrect that laws existed since evolution of human kind.. vustomary laws came into existence with settled life.. earlier there wasn’t any law
4th check last line in 2nd para
5th in paras where u mentioned Arthashastra, Jizya etc mention a line about how they helped maintain social order.. without this line, it seems off context.. e.g. there was an excerpt in Arthashastra that women can take work home and they have to return or send the articles in time and if they don’t, then they can be punished (smthng like this)

Overall.. there are some grammatical and spelling issues.. take care of them.. u need to work on flow and make it little catchy.. also, address other side i.e. why laws are not essential as there are implementation, compliance issues etc

Intro part needs improvement, you have taken well initially but expression missed to right presentation
-no need digraph in essay. if you want then do at end or initially but not at center.
you have repeated same things twice some points …….social, economic and politically protects and gives justice to every sections of society by law.
3third page point is good …..yes law changes time to time and with situation, but British made salt law was not agreed common people. you have not written that for example. law are universal equal and equal to agree and save comman man otherwise that become tyran but not law…. like sedition law.
4th page is good at initial points ….you have good information and ideas but presentation lacks.
5th page needs improvement ….
6th page has good points and well tried …appreciated
7th page initial points goood and conclusion needs improvement …write quotation at intro but not at conclude part …

“At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst”.-ARISTOTLE
Societies have evolved from the ancient Mesopotamian, greek and Indus Valley civilisation to the societies of the contemporary times and the process has been in continuity since then.Society has changed ,needs have changed and there is a paradigm shift in the thought process.
People in the stone age had their way of life and they had their own difficulties ,but one think that has not changed since then is the resilience of the humans towards an adversary. Our civilisations have evolved from scratch and being distorted a number of times but still its the resilience of the humans and the attitude to bounce back and stand has led us to the times where we are today. There has been a continuous evolution of our societies. We never bowed down to the adversity and have always come up with the the best possible solutions to the situation. That’s how our societies have evolved and even today we are fighting for human adversaries across the globe.
Our thought have always been reflected in the law of our times, be it the times of socrates, Lincoln or Gandhi, the society was nothing but the reflection of the law of the land. They are the foundation stones on which the societies are build and and the process of evolution of society takes place on the foundation stones of law.
Laws that are inconsistent with the society are not meant for justice and justice which is granted by overruling the law makes no sense.Laws are always framed by keeping the last man into consideration, the principle of antayodaya in our Indian society.Laws are a must for the working of a society and thus any kind of stringency should be avoided to accommodate all the class and sections of the society.Societies have always sustained under different kind of rule, but what always remains is the adherence of the citizens towards the law and the authority. But only those system of rules have survived which have shown the maximum flexibility in its framing and minimum rigidity in its compliance.
Laws of land not only depicts the rule within its territory but also shows the traits of its global relations.
Trade and expeditions have acted as developing relations among diff rulers and at times they have been the cause of invasion. But what attracted the trade and further relations have always been the rule of law in the territories. These principles stand upright even today after centuries.
Relations in the era of Nation States have became very sensitive. With the advent of globalisation the world has became highly interconnected and inter dependent too.In the present scenario the responsibility has increased on the world to make sustainable and cordial relations with each other to which a stringent law may not be a good policy to dwell on.Laws of the land have always taken the centre stage while framing the foreign policy. A policy paralysis in a state can not only be detrimental to the state’s internal security but also invites alien threat to the nation.
The instance of arab spring is a lesson worth learning to every country in the world. The inner political turmoil or stringent laws at some instance have turned the tiny fanning of sparks into flames of destruction. The case of Iraq,Libya,Syria and Egypt are a few to give a glimpse of the destruction and misery which these country faced due to the inner turmoil which finally turned out to be the worst nightmare in the history of these countries.
A stable state not only ensures internal peace and harmony but also give an opportunity to the citizens to explore themselves to the optimum and help develop cordial relations with the rest of the world. It also gives a country the chance to have a stake in the global policy formation and a sustainable world for its upcoming generations.

Its my 1st ever CSE essay. Please review and be as critical as you want to.

Law is the essential foundation of stability and order both within societies and in international relations.

From time immemorial man has been preoccupied with laws, be it those of science and nature or those of social phenomena. The attempts to discover the framework governing all actions and events, to codify them into laws says a lot about the human desire for order and organization in a world, that has not been friendly to humans till they learnt to manipulate them.

From the simplest societies to complex, stratified ones, law governs the functioning of them all. Law is a set of rules, principles and codes that we as members of a group agree to abide. Its violation results in a penalisation to ensure compliance; continued violation can cause ostracisation at the least and incarceration or death at the most. With the sustained rise in population over the last many centuries law has now become the essential foundation of stability and order both within societies and international relations.

The fundamental rights and duties detailed in our constitution best elaborate the necessity of law in maintaining stability and order in society. For our growth and development we need many material and intangible things as well as liberties- the concept of rights recognises these as inalienable to human dignity. However we as humans also have a moral obligation to ensure that the process of our development does not hinder that of our fellow beings. We are entitled to happiness and freedom but not to take them away from others or achieve them on the backs of the less fortunate.

The prevalence of cow vigilanteeism in 2017 is a good example of the consequences of law being disregarded by miscreants who decide to take it into their hands. People have lost their lives over mere suspicions of transporting cattle for slaughter despite in many cases, them having the permits to do so. Vigilantes have created an atmosphere of fear. Many small farmers are now forced to pay huge amounts to maintain cattle in sanctioned centres, driving them to abandon a source of supplementary income.
India’s long history of communal riots are another powerful example of what happens when law and order break down and the custodians cannot deal with the hordes of rioters.

Without law, mobs prevail. Mob psychology has long been an area of study, to understand how they operate so that the police forces can dissipate them before they cause great damage to lives and property. Mobs are characterised by an inability for individual and rational thought, an invariable sweeping up into murderous frenzies and an anonymity that further reinforces the diffusion of responsibility and thoughtlessness.

Law protects us from each other and from those who seek to take away our autonomy, be it the state or private residents. Here are some landmark legislations that seek to protect the marginalised and oppressed in India whose voices are often unheard:
1. POCSO- Children are the future of any society and also some of its most vulnerable members. They must be protected from forces that will damage their very existence.
2. Prevention of atrocities against SCs and STs; Forest rights Acts- The systematic discrimination experienced by these communities have been codified by scriptural sanctions and became so integral a part of social norms that even with the stringent punishment, societal attitudes have been slow to change.
3. PCA, Wildlife protection act, etc- without these laws it is unlikely we would have had any flora and fauna left in this country. We would have killed ourselves much faster by poisoning the environment.
4. Laws protecting women from sexual crimes and gender specific violence- the number of these acts makes it difficult to name them; this shows how deep seated oppression and marginalisation of women was just 60 years ago and continues to be world over. Patriarchy victimises not just women but men too.

Law also streamlines procedures and creates guidelines for governments and systems to operate upon. Taxation systems, River water disputes, regulation of different sectors of the economy, financial markets, health and educational institutions etc can be regulated for easy, organised and comprehensible functioning. Tribunals help resolve disputes between parties. The recent Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code has the objective of monitoring and helping through NPA proceedings where many creditors are owed money and turn ailing companies around if possible.

In the sphere of international relations the following instances show the importance of laws:
1. World Wars: The need for a League of Nations and United Nations was felt just to ensure that such large scale devastations never happened again. This organization facilitates dialogue and arrangements of a legal nature to anticipate all possible area of confrontation and dispute resolution, through the International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court and its various bodies.
2. Conventions and treaties: Environmental conventions like the UNFCCC, Convention on Conservation of Antarctic Marine resources, CITES etc make countries recognise their joint responsibilities towards planet Earth.
Multilateral agreements on refugees, treatment of diplomats, child labor etc facilitate cooperation between countries and serve as a guide for countries to make their own regulations.
China’s violations of the UNCLOS have created concerns over the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, which is bordered by other Asian nations as well.
3. Bilateral dispute resolution: Law has helped countries resolve border disputes as Between Sri Lanka and India over Katchatheevu Islands and the Indo-Pak Indus Water Treaty. They create a mechanism for dialogue and recognising each others’ concerns.

There have been many horrific incidences of genocides such as In Germany during the World War or by Khmer Rouge during its rule over Cambodia. International tribunals acceptable to all parties were set up to ensure that the war criminals did not go unpunished for the large scale violations of life and liberty they had inflicted. Countries have managed to show political will through these platforms which help them do with the aid of other countries what they may have found hard. It also sends a world wide message that crimes against humanity are just not acceptable.

Law is not static but dynamic. The guiding principles behind these codes change with the times as the ethics of societies change. Such change is necessary. Rigid laws can become a source of oppression. Law is just an instrument- in the wrong circumstances, it can become a way to stamp out people’s expression of their aspirations and dissent, as happens with the use of sedition clauses in India. Law has been used to torment homosexual individuals through Sec 377 of IPC.
Oppressive laws have caused developmental decay in West Asia as countries like Saudi Arabia justify their use through religious sanctions to oppress minorities and women. Dictatorships have often faced tremendous backlash as in Egypt ad Iraq.
Law is only as effective at maintaining peace and stability as its creators and enforcers. Societies that do not change stagnate. As necessary as it is to obey laws that are conducive to growth and order, it is also imperative that laws must evolve with the times.

India may be a land of hundered problems. but is also a place for a billion of solutions..
-India since time immemorial has promoted peace and now lives with a chalta hai(let it be) attitude. From hospitals to judicial courts, from educational institutes to government working departments, all these have devoted collectively to dwell among humans such a perception about them. It seems as if all the common problems which are actually a problem are now treated as part of parcel of life for us, indians.. Some of the issues that really demand high level of revision, redress and altogether a different holistic approach by the concerned authorities are
1.Corruption – probably one of the biggest endemic pervading in the indian society where there is hardly any sector left untouched by it.

2.Illiteracy, where five persons among ten in india are poor is the main root cause of very scare spread of digital knowledge despite innumerable effects taken to digitalise india.

3).The educational system in india is aidely criticised for focussing too much on theoritical aspects and lagging practical knowledge about a concept..

4) Sanitation, yet another bigger problem in india. where till date 700 million people of india have inadequate sanitation facilities. People residing in slum deprived of toilet facilities are forced to defecate in open resulting into the breeding grounds for many types of diseases like cholera, diarrhea, dengue etc.
5) Poverty- one third of world’s poor live in india and 37% of the indian population still resides below international poverty line. 42% of the children of india are under weight.
like wise many problems….
But that does not define India completely.
…. India may have number of problems, may have number of age old never ending issues but here every individual aspires and is able enough, to transform the notion of all the prevailing problems and is doing too.
India has the largest number of young population in the world where 65% of the population is under 35 years of age.
These young great minds have achieved mighty glories and have reached at the zenith of their dreams that has collectively forced rest of the world to acknowledge their stand on different parameters of development.
No nation is stranger to the sucess of ISRO for all its might invincible glories. From acheiving the successful mars mission in its very first attmept to banging the world record of launching more than 100 satellities in a single go leaves every competitor far behind in the race.
…. kindly through your views on SOLUTIONS part… as i am unable to support my answer… and please review me.
