Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world

Quoted by Nelson Mandela, It shows the impact of education. But what is education? Is it just going to school and learning maths and sciences? Or Is it reading religious scriptures? No, education is way beyond that. It is a means to empower your brains, to think critically and rationally, and apply this to real life problems so as to make world better place to live in. It is the ability to question. Swami Vivekananda said, do not believe a thing written in text or just because someone said. Believe it only when it satisfies your intellect. It is this ability to question which has the potential to change the world.

Dr. kalam said, “If you are blessed with intelligence and empowered with education, then it is your responsibility to change the world”
A clear manifestation of this can be seen from history when Dr.Raja Ram Mohan Roy fought for sati by questioning religious preachers based upon his knowledge of religious scriptures. Later, other social reformers took inspiration from Roy’s working style and fought for widow remarriage and women education.

Infact, Swami Vivekananda criticized Indians for stagnate minds. He believed that a country can prosper only with minds which are progressive. This means Education not only involves learning, but it also involves un-learning and re-learning. E.g. It was a common practice in past where different hookahs were maintained for different castes which could not be shared. Same practice was observed by Vivekananda ji in his childhood in his father’s office. He questioned his father about why not only 1 hookah? He didn’t get any satisfactory answer so he tried smoking from all of them and realized all tasted same. So this was the moment, when he unlearnt the practice of untouchability and re-learned that he should fight for equality. Thus, it was education which gave him the capability to question his surroundings and then strive for changing the norms.

Similarly we had Mahatma Gandhi, Gautam Buddha, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousufzai, and other innumerable names who contributed their bit to the society so as to improve the world.

But, we do see a lot of problems plaguing our society like terrorism, pollution, garbage collection, forest degradation, climate change, nuclear arsenal proliferation, social discrimination etc which needs actions and leadership from educated minds.

Only an educated mind can realize that LGBTQ community is also human community and they should be given their basic rights, environmental damage is disaster in making and requires quick actions etc

But we find ourselves in a paradoxical situation where we know education is the most important weapon to change the world, but we haven’t worked on educational reforms an our education system promotes rote learning than practical application. Also, the education system continues to be exclusionary in qualitative terms, inspite of achieving near universal primary school enrollment. Lack of money transforms into lack of education and leads to perpetration of poverty.

Srinivas Ramanujan was great mathematician who had just one maths book and it was enough for him to create mathematical Equations. But, not every child is so intellectually blessed and needs support for growth. This support system continues to be discriminatory and hence, no one knows how many Ramanujan are lost in their poverty.

Therefore, It was human intellect which led to colonization, degradation of forests, accumulation of plastics, untouchability etc but it is also the same human mind empowered with edcation which seeks solution to these problems and thus, it is education which is the weapon to change the world.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world “,it is an speech quoted by Nelson Mandela on education. Yes, it is acceptable statement that all of us know about this. He relied education as a game changer of all because the power of the education imparted on human beings. Education guides and senses the leaners with knowledge which he might faced the problems as it is not simply a poems or imagination or friction. Education is the complilation from experience with analysis from different angles on different subjects given by the different philosophists. This can made the learners to think before he or she acts in a helpful manner. Through this ideas one can change the world through evolution of freedom of knowledge such as liberty, freedom, equality ,fraternity and development.With the rise of renaissance in the west specially in french revolution,the idea of liberty and equality came to the world and this wake up the world that “All men are equal before law .” Based on this, the world today we lived are formed which our gOvt protects all of us with the same dignity given by the law.With this same ideas, Indian constitution removed untouchabity and declared one man ,one vote system .And the most reliable change is the apartheid in South Africa later on UN and world leaders excepted it on the world platform. Ultimately,the world recognised all men are equal irrespective of race, color and wealth. Through this idea of knowledge the world has not transformed not only equality between races but the gender as well.Nowadays, women are not subjugated under male they are entitled with equal laws pars with men. The importance of women has increased as it has sayings that the education of men is one but women education is the education of the whole family. Education brought everything change for all with the change of time because education is dynamic.
Hence, through education ,it can help the learners to adapt the change that happenings around him or her. Education became the analysis of knowledge relevant with today ‘s psychology and ethics and this allow the new evolution of thoughts that had never occurred before. Eg, recently SC banned the instant tripple talaq and recognised of marital rape as crime against women from the analysis of Hindu marriage Act. India change many of laws that was formed in the formation of Indian constitution as it is not reliabled as of today technological world. This is through education ,our constitution makers can cope many dangerous situations .
Education abled to change the world because it changes a society and it changes a man that formed the society and abled to maintain the peace, harmony and tranquility of a man. As sayings from Gandhiji ,”education means all round drawing out of the best in child and man -body mind and spirit. “And he also said that “education becomes the basis of personality development in all dimenision -moral, mental and emotional “. Gandhi opinion is that education is the responsible for it’s outcomes .It is because from the education, the learners gets all reliable knowledge that he or she should response in a particular issue from different sources even from opposite suggestions and digest through perceptions and this guide and controls the mind ,soul and spirit. In such a situation, he / she would not act like an uneducated person which lacks that particular issue. The great example for this was Mahatma Gandhi in which he took the advice of great man like Leo Tolstoy. And this was helpful in the Indian freedom struggle by waking up the sleep Indians under the British policy.
Though education change the world. The question is why the world has not the solution for all the current problems like turmoil in West Asia, climate change and it’s threats rohinhgyas issues and fundamentalism of Islam. It is not because of the lack of education but the lack of morality and love. Here, it is not related with education at all. Why the most developed US would relied for world politics and against China and north Korea is questionable to all? The fights between India and Pakistan, North Korea and south Korea and the issue of the common but differianted responsibilities in climate change are not related with education but related with” own cost protection “. Such factors is responsible by subjects like economists which subjected for profit motive ,a part of education.In education ,there can’t be relate with the peace preached by Buddha and Mahavira that can change the world through the love, peace and non violence.however, in the present world all the diplomatics relations are economists.moreover, the situation is worsened by the development of science and development as there has been increased of treats to man kind including nuclear war. The great example is the heroisma and nagasaki nuclear bombing.

At last of all,we can’t leave education, it is the game changer of all .however, education should be used in proper way according to do and don’t that generally accepted in all until then education can change the world according to Mandela.
