News: The 19th edition of Joint Military exercise “Exercise SURYAKIRAN XIX – 2025” commenced recently at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
About Exercise SURYAKIRAN XIX – 2025
- 2025 edition: It is the 19th edition of the India–Nepal Joint Military Exercise SURYAKIRAN XIX – 2025.
- Duration: It will be conducted from 25 November 2025 to 08 December 2025.
- Location: Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.
- Participating Contingents: Both India and Nepal have 334 personnel each, from the Assam Regiment and Devi Datta Regiment respectively.
- Aim: To enable both armies to jointly rehearse the conduct of sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate.
- Objective: Preparing troops for peacekeeping tasks by improving their operational readiness and coordination.
- Scope: The exercise seeks to strengthen battalion-level synergy in executing jungle warfare operations.
- Training Focus: It focuses on refining counter-terrorism tactics suitable for mountainous terrain.
- The training also includes modules on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).
- Participants will practice coordinated medical response and casualty evacuation procedures.
- Environmental conservation measures form a part of the joint training activities.
- Integrated ground and aviation operations will be rehearsed to improve real-time coordination.
- Use of Emerging Technologies: The exercise places significant emphasis on incorporating niche and emerging technologies into field training.
- Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) will be employed to enhance surveillance and operational planning.
- Drone-based ISR platforms will be used to demonstrate modern reconnaissance capabilities. AI-enabled decision support tools will assist troops in refining tactical responses.
- Unmanned logistic vehicles will be tested for supply delivery in challenging environments
- Armoured protection platforms will be used to simulate secure troop movement and protection strategies.
- Both armies will focus on improving interoperability through coordinated drills and joint procedures.
