  • Location: It is located in western Africa on the Atlantic coast.
  • It is one of the smallest countries in the African continent.
  • Capital: Bissau
  • Land boundaries: It shares land borders with Senegal to the north and Guinea to the east and south.
  • Maritime boundary: To the west, it has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.
    • It includes the Bijagós (Bissagos) archipelago and other islands that lie off the coast.
  • Climate: Guinea-Bissau has a generally tropical climate influenced by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
  • River: Major rivers such as the Geba, Corubal and Cacheu drain plateaus and plains and create flood-prone floodplains.
  • Terrain: The land is mostly low-lying coastal plains with tidal estuaries, swamps and savanna in the east, including plateaus and hills.
  • Plateau: The Fouta Djallon Plateau dominates the southeastern part of the country.
  • Highest peak: The highest point is Monte Torin .
  • Fauna
    • The country hosts rich fauna, including aquatic birds, reptiles, sea turtles, gazelles, antelopes, monkeys, hyenas and leopards.
    • There was once a substantial elephant population, but it has now been virtually eliminated.
