News: After Argentina’s 2–1 victory over England in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Lautaro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso celebrated by holding up a banner that read, “Las Malvinas son Argentinas,” meaning “The Falkland Islands (Malvinas) are Argentine.”
About Falkland Islands

- Location: They are archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean on the Patagonian Shelf and is considered a British overseas territory.
- They are situated 483km (300 miles) off the east coast of Argentina.
- Capital: The capital is Stanley (also, Port Stanley).
- Area: They covers a total area of 12,173 sq.km.
- Geography:
- They are an archipelago made up of two large islands, East Falkland and West Falkland and 776 smaller islands and islets.
- They have a rugged coastline, and most of the land is hilly, rocky, and covered with low shrubs and coarse grass.
- The two main islands are separated by Falkland Sound.
- The central areas of both large islands are covered by hills and low mountains, including the Wickham Heights and Hornsby ranges.
- Highest Point: The highest point in the archipelago is Mount Usborne on East Falkland, which rises to 2,312 feet (705 m).
- Shallow streams, ponds, and small lakes cover only a small part of the land.
