Forest fire at Attappady peak dies down
- A major forest fire that had broken out at two locations of Malleswara peak of Attappady Reserve Forest, Palakkad district, Kerala has subsided. The State government has sought the help of the Air Force to put out the fire at Attappadi, Agali and Bhavani forest ranges.
- Malleswara peak is the highest peak in the Attappadi Reserve Forest. Attappadi is a mountain valley at the headwaters of Bhavani River-a tributary of Kaveri River.
- The Bhavani forest ranges is a prat of the buffer zone of Silent valley national park. Silent Valley in Kerala was declared as National Park in 1984. It is located in the South-western corner of Nilgiris. It is a protected area within the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
