Source– This post on Functioning of Mosquito Bat is based on the article “Understanding the science behind the functioning of a mosquito bat” published in “The Hindu” on 9th April 2024.
Why in the News?
The following article explains the functioning of mosquito bats.
How Mosquito bat works
1. Structure and Function:
There are three metal meshes: the middle one has a positive charge, and the two on the sides are negatively charged. The current does not flow when the layers do not touch each other.
But when a mosquito connects them, a current passes through them and kills the insect.
2. Working Voltage- Mosquito bat works with around 1,400 V. This is about a thousand times more voltage than a regular battery. This is strong enough to kill mosquitoes and create sparks in the air.
