  1. The Asian Elephant Alliance is aiming at raising £20 million funds for securing 96 out of 101 elephant corridors in India.
  2. The Asian Elephant Alliance is an alliance of five conservation organizations- IUCN National Committee of The Netherlands, Wildlife Trust of India, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Elephant Family and World Land Trust
  3. The elephant corridors are narrow strips of land which enables elephants to move from one habitat to another.
  4. The corridors in India have been under constant threat from habitat fragmentation which leads to increased human-animal conflict.
  5. According to report titled “Right of Passage”, published by the Wildlife trust of India, 7 elephant corridors in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been impaired due to land use changes.
  6. In January 2019, the Supreme Court of India held that elephants have the first right on the forest and added that humans cannot encroach upon elephant habitats and corridors.
