- The Asian Elephant Alliance is aiming at raising £20 million funds for securing 96 out of 101 elephant corridors in India.
- The Asian Elephant Alliance is an alliance of five conservation organizations- IUCN National Committee of The Netherlands, Wildlife Trust of India, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Elephant Family and World Land Trust
- The elephant corridors are narrow strips of land which enables elephants to move from one habitat to another.
- The corridors in India have been under constant threat from habitat fragmentation which leads to increased human-animal conflict.
- According to report titled “Right of Passage”, published by the Wildlife trust of India, 7 elephant corridors in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been impaired due to land use changes.
- In January 2019, the Supreme Court of India held that elephants have the first right on the forest and added that humans cannot encroach upon elephant habitats and corridors.
