- Ministry of Renewable Energy(MNRE) has cautioned the public against fraudulent websites that are conducting registrations under the Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) Scheme.
- Recently,MNRE has formulated the KUSUM Scheme.The scheme aims to promote the use of solar power among farmers.The power distribution companies and state nodal agencies would implement this scheme.
- The scheme envisages a) installation of grid-connected solar power plants capacity up to 2 MW in the rural area, b) installation of standalone off-grid solar water pumps to help farmers who are not connected to the grid, c) Solarisation of existing grid-connected agriculture pumps- This would make farmers independent of grid supply and also enable them to sell surplus solar power generated to power companies and d) solarization of tube-wells and lift irrigation projects of Government sector.
- The scheme would (a)provide extra income to farmers (b)promote decentralised solar power production (c)help in reduction of transmission losses (d)substantial environmental impact in terms of savings of CO2 emissions(e)will generate employment opportunity for skilled and unskilled workers and (f)Reduce DISCOM’s subsidy burden to agriculture sector.
