- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Director of Namami Gange and the Director General of National Institute of Hydrology to inspect and submit a report on the Yamuna floodplain in Agra. The inspection is to be done to ascertain the demarcation of river floodplain in Agra and the construction on it.
- At previous instances, the NGT had rebuked Uttar Pradesh government for improper demarcation of floodplain of river Yamuna. The tribunal had also slammed Agra Development Authority for allowing construction on the floodplain.
- In 2015, NGT had restrained real estate development close to Yamuna. It had also banned dumping of construction material into the Yamuna.
- The National Green Tribunal was established in 2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010. The responsibility of the tribunal is to work on the disposal of cases related to environmental protection, conservation of forests and other natural resources.
- The Namami Gange is an Integrated Conservation Mission which seeks effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga.
- National Institute of Hydrology is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. It is a premier research organization working in the area of hydrology and water resources in India.
