- A hailstorm in the buffer zone of Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh has killed thousands of birds. Any thunderstorm that produces hail, which reaches the ground, is called a hailstorm. Hail is solid precipitation made of balls or irregular lumps of ice, each of which is called a hailstone. Hailstones consist mostly of water ice and measures between 5 mm and 15 cm in diameter.
- Pench Tiger Reserve is located in the districts of Seoni and Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh. It is named after the river Pench which flows through the area. Pench was affirmed as a wildlife sanctuary in 1965. In the year 1975, the sanctuary got the recognition of national park. In 1992, it was declared as a Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger. Project Tiger is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Government of India which was launched in 1973 for in-situ conservation of wild tigers in designated tiger reserve.
