The Henley Passport Index 2026 compares passports based on the travel access they provide to holders across the world.
Index based on: The index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association on visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and e-visa access.
The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.
Started in: The index was started in 2006 as the Henley & Partners Visa Restrictions Index.
Key Findings of Henley Passport Index 2026
Top-ranked passports: Singapore ranks first with visa-free access to 192 destinations, while Japan and South Korea are jointly ranked second with access to 188 destinations.
European presence: Several European countries dominate the third, fourth, and fifth positions, showing strong regional mobility and integration.
Lowest-ranked countries: Afghanistan ranks last at 101st with access to 24 destinations, followed by Syria and Iraq at the bottom of the list.
India’s performance: India ranks 80th in 2026, improving from 85th in 2025, with access to 55 destinations through visa-free or visa-on-arrival facilities.
Meaning of the ranking: The index reflects travel convenience, diplomatic relations, economic links, and international trust among countries.
