About: The HECI is supposed to replace the university grants commission (a statutory body) which has been responsible for the maintenance of the standard of higher education in India. HECI shall function as a body that lays down uniform standards for the development of education in India. Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC) is expected to function as the common, single point regulator for the higher education sector to relook and repeal existing Acts and restructure various existing regulatory bodies.

Functions:

  • The aim of HECI is to decrease the number of regulators.
  • To decrease the interference of the government in the management of the educational institutions.
  • HECI claims that the regulation of higher education institutions will be more transparent.
  • The HECI encourages public disclosures by specifying the various parameters of the academic outcomes and the academic performance by all the higher educational institutions.
