Highlights of BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers Meeting

1. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the need for BIMSTEC countries to address regional challenges internally during the first BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ retreat in New Delhi.
2. Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, and Bhutan participated in the meeting.
3.The meeting focused on longstanding goals like capacity-building and economic cooperation, considering recent global and regional developments.
4. The ongoing instability in Myanmar was a central concern, impacting developmental and connectivity projects among BIMSTEC countries.
5. Discussions with Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister included connectivity projects and border stability, with talks on potential humanitarian assistance.
