Recently, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways has introduced the Humsafar Policy.

About Humsafar Policy

1. The Humsafar Policy aligns with the Ministry’s goals to bring national highways to international standards.

2. Purpose: The Humsafar Policy aims to improve infrastructure on India’s national highways, focusing on comfort, convenience, and inclusivity for travellers.

3. Objective: Enhance the travel experience by providing essential services and making highways more user-friendly.

Key Features of the Humsafar Policy

1. Sanitation Facilities: Installation of clean and well-maintained toilets at regular intervals for travellers.

2. Family-Friendly Amenities: Dedicated baby care rooms equipped with changing tables for families with young children.

3. Accessibility: Wheelchair provisions to ensure accessibility for differently abled travellers.

4. Support for Electric Vehicles (EVs): Installation of EV charging stations along highways to promote eco-friendly transportation.

5. Parking and Fuel Stations: Adequate parking facilities at fuel stations and rest stops to manage traffic flow. Increased number of fuel stations along highways for easier access to petrol, diesel, and essential services.

6. Food and Refreshment Options: Establishment of restaurants and food courts at regular intervals to offer quality meals and refreshments.

7. Short-Term Accommodation: Dormitories at fuel stations for truck drivers and travellers to rest during long-distance journeys.
