ICC rejects BCCI’s request to ‘isolate’ Pakistan
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) request for isolation of Pakistan from the global cricket community.
- The BCCI led by Committee of administrators(CoA) had made the appeal following the Pulwama terror attack to isolate the nations who sponsor terrorism.
- Committee of Administrators(CoA) are nominated panel committee appointed by Supreme Court in wake of serious corruption allegations in BCCI.It is headed by Vinod Rai to look after the administration of the BCCI in order to implement Lodha committee reforms.
- The Supreme Court had accepted major recommendations of the Lodha Committee on reforms to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).They were (a)Ministers and civil servants and those above 70 are not allowed to become BCCI members (b)BCCI will have a CAG nominee (c)Members will have a 3-year term with a cooling-off period between 2 successive terms (d)One-State-One-vote recommendation was accepted – states that have more than 1 cricket association (Maharashtra, Gujarat) will have voting rights on a rotational basis (e)1 person should hold 1 post in cricket administration to avoid any conflict of interest and (f)There should be a players’ association in the BCCI.
