  1. Indian Government may send National Investigation Agency(NIA) to Sri Lanka to study the recent series of blasts in churches and hotels across Sri Lanka that claimed more than 290 lives.
  2. Earlier,India had also shared intelligence inputs to Sri Lanka on possible terror strikes at different locations including the Indian High Commission.
  3. NIA has claimed that radicalisation in eastern Sri Lanka had started in the 1980s when civil war in Sri Lanka has led to Muslims gravitating towards fundamentalist forces.Post the civil war,this radicalisation has been fuelled by increasing attacks by Buddhist Sinhala groups.
  4. National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a central agency established by the Indian Government to combat terror in India.It acts as the Central Counter Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency.
  5. The agency is empowered to deal with terror related crimes across states without special permission from the states.The Agency came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the Parliament of India on 31 December 2008.
