News: Delhi Chief Minister has inaugurated India’s first plasma bank at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences(ILBS).

Facts:

  • Plasma Bank: It functions like a blood bank and has been created specifically for those who are suffering from Covid-19 and have been advised Convalescent Plasma therapy by doctors.
  • Convalescent Plasma Therapy: It seeks to make use of the antibodies developed in the recovered patient against the coronavirus.
    • The whole blood or plasma from such people is taken and plasma is then injected in critically ill patients so that the antibodies are transferred and boost their fight against the virus.
