News: Free To Think 2024 report states that India’s academic freedom has slipped from 0.6 points to 0.2 points from 2013 to 2023.
1. Academic Freedom Index: It is a measurement tool that assesses the level of academic freedom across the world, covering 179 countries and territories. It is published by V-Dem and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
2. The first version of AFI was launched in 2019.
3. It ranks countries on score, ranging from 0 (lowest) to 1 (highest).
4. It is based on 5 indicators: A) Freedom to research and teach B) Freedom of academic exchange and dissemination C) Institutional Autonomy D) Campus Integrity E) Freedom of academic and cultural expression.
5. It employs a Bayesian measurement model method for data aggregation.
