News: INS Tamal is set to be commissioned in June 2025. It will be India’s last imported warship, marking a shift to full domestic warship production.

  • It was built under Project 1135.6.
  • INS Tamal belongs to an upgraded Krivak-III-class series.
  • It is 125 meters long and weighs 3,900 tonnes. It integrates Russian design with Indian technology.
  • Notably, around 26% of its components are sourced from Indian manufacturers.
  • INS Tamal is equipped with a 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM), enhancing its naval artillery capabilities.
  • It also features two Indigenous Triple Torpedo Launchers (ITTL) for 324mm torpedoes, ensuring effective anti-submarine warfare operations.
  • The frigate carries a formidable array of missile systems, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and vertically launched Shtil surface-to-air missiles, bolstering both its offensive and defensive capabilities.
  • It is designed for blue-water operations, the frigate is capable of engaging in multiple dimensions of naval warfare, including air, surface, underwater, and electronic warfare.
