- The government has appointed K. Natarajan as the Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard(ICG).
- The Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission organization entrusted with superintendence and policing of India’s maritime areas including the Exclusive Economic Zone.
- ICG was formally established in 1978 by the Coast Guard Act,1978 as an independent Armed force of India.It operates under the Ministry of Defence.
- The organization is headed by the Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG).
