Kerala records 46% rainfall deficit in March

  1. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that overall rainfall deficiency in Kerala in March stands at 46%. Further, 8 districts in Kerala has been reeling under large rainfall deficiency. Kasaragod district has received no rainfall in March, while Paathanmthitta district recorded normal rainfall. Kollam is the only district to record 28% excess rainfall during the period.
  2. The IMD defines rainfall as deficient as percentage departure of realised rainfall from normal rainfall is between – 20 % to – 59 %.
  3. Rainfall is normal when percentage departure of realised rainfall from normal rainfall is between – 19 % to + 19 %.
  4. Excess rainfall is when the percentage departure of realised rainfall from normal rainfall is + 20% or more.
